Mission Statement
The Marshall County Office of Emergency Management is charged with the overall responsibility of coordinating the canton's preparedness for and response to disasters. Geographically, its authority extends to the entire county as defined by state law TCA 58-two-110. The mission of the Office of Emergency Management is to develop and implement a comprehensive, integrated emergency direction program that seeks to: mitigate the effects of various hazards, to set for measures which will preserve life and minimize damage, to respond during emergencies, to provide assist, and to establish a recovery system to return the customs to a normal condition after an event. This agency combines the local resources of Marshall County, the Urban center of Lewisburg, the Town of Chapel Hill, the Town of Cornersville, and the Boondocks of Petersburg; along with State and Federal resources to mitigate, set for, respond to, and recover from the furnishings of all types of emergencies including natural or man-made disasters, technological accidents, acts of terrorism both domestic and foreign, national security threats, and other disrupting incidents that may affect our area or the full general populations, thereby working to insure the condom and welfare of the unabridged Marshall Canton community.
The Marshall Canton Part of Emergency Management responds to all types of emergencies in an effort to support all public safety agencies on a daily footing. It was first established in 1952 every bit the local Civil Defence force Authority and functioned for many years every bit the Civil Defense Agency. The name was changed to the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency and it'due south scope broadened in 1979. In 2004 things changed again as a result of 9-xi-2001 and the office now operates every bit the Function of Emergency Direction for the purpose of directing emergency management and homeland security issues for the citizens of the entire county.
The 50 trained volunteers of the bureau respond to all types of emergencies including fires and natural disasters such equally floods, tornadoes, water ice storms, extreme heat or cold, and drought. They provide a skilled search and rescue team, harm assessment team, rapid response team, and provide coordination between the local amateur radio lodge and Apprentice Radio Emergency Services group and emergency services. The OEM hazmat team is responsible for containment and stabilization of hazardous materials incidents. The office monitors the conditions and the water levels for local creeks and Duck River and broadcasts alerts accordingly. Marshall Canton OEM serves as a point of contact and training site for all of our canton public safety and response agencies and teams. OEM writes and reviews emergency plans for buildings designed to contain groups of people, such as schools, daycare centers, and healthcare facilities. The OEM is responsible for planning, responding, mitigating and coordinating recovery from any big-calibration emergency that could affect the citizens of Marshall County.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF Role
The OEM is responsible for the county'due south Emergency Operations Plan, the Marshall County Chancy Mitigation Plan, and Debri direction program. We are charged with maintaining and operating the Marshall County Emergency Operations Center and Joint Information Heart in case of disasters or events across normal response capabilities. Nosotros are a fellow member of the South Central Regional Healthcare Coalition and work forth with the Marshall County Wellness Department, MMC, and EMS in training and response for any possible pandemic or outbreak. We are also active members of the Emergency Management Clan of Tennessee, the District six Homeland Security Council, and the Marshall County Emergency Communication District (911). We serve as the lead bureau for Marshall County on Tactical Interoperable Communications, and maintain the annual Sara Championship Three reporting for Marshall County industries showing the amount of hazardous materials contained at those sites. They serve every bit the local branch and receive funding from TEMA, FEMA, and the Office of Homeland Security as well as the Marshall County Government. The local office applies for and administers various state and federal grants, which provide equipment and training for response agencies beyond all Emergency Services in Marshall County.
